What is recorded

Each page view is logged on this site’s own server. No analytics company is involved and nothing is shared with anyone. For each visit the following is stored:

• the page visited, and the page that linked here
• the date and time
• your IP address, and the approximate location and network derived from it (country, city, provider)
• your browser, operating system, device type, language and screen size

Visitors are counted without cookies: a one-way, salted fingerprint is generated each day so that repeat views can be grouped together. It cannot be reversed, and it changes daily, so it cannot follow you over time or across other websites.

Why

To understand which work people find useful, which credentials and articles are read, and where visitors come from. The legal basis is legitimate interest in understanding how a personal professional site is used.

How long it is kept

Visit records are deleted automatically after two years. Messages sent through the contact form are kept until the conversation is finished.

Who can see it

Only Dr. Farrukh Akhtar, through a password-protected page on this site. The data is not sold, shared or used for advertising. IP addresses are looked up against a geolocation service (ip-api.com) to obtain the country and city; that lookup result is cached on this server.

Your choices

If your browser sends a “Do Not Track” signal, this site records nothing at all. You can ask for the records associated with your IP address to be shown to you or deleted by emailing smfarrukh82@gmail.com.

Other services

Videos are embedded from YouTube and Vimeo, and only load when you press play — until then those companies receive nothing. Fonts and scripts are served from this site, not from a content network.
